I Heart Windows 7 Beta

So not being one to be able to ignore a good xkcd comic, I caved in and tried to install Windows 7 Beta on my good old Dell Inspiron 6400 last night.

Now given the troubles I’ve been having with Vista on my M700 at work and media centre at home, I’ve got to say I was a little sceptical.

But I have to say, I am seriously impressed. I basically did the install, rebooted once into a fresh system at a restricted 1024×768 resolution, and then after 2 minutes was asked to reboot after having installed updates.

After the second reboot I was logged into a full high-res, aero, running slick looking machine with all my drivers installed and all devices recognised. This was the same feeling I got when I installed Win98 SE on a machine after having struggled with Win 98 for so long. A breath of fresh air.

Anyhow, I need to have a little play with it to see how it behaves during normal use, but so far, it’s already light years ahead of my Vista experiences.

Update: I don’t think I made it clear just how fast the install process was above. I mean all I had to do set a few options and kick off the install. 15-20 minutes later I had a working usable system.
